Precinct Worker Information

Interested in serving at the polls?

If you would like to serve your community on Election Day as an Election Officer, Imperial County could use your assistance. Each election, the Elections Division must recruit Election Officers to work at the polling places. A Precinct board is comprised of four (4) Election Officers. In most cases people are assigned to work in the city in which they live. To volunteer your services, please call the Registrar of Voters Office at (442) 265-1060.

Precint Officers sign

Election Officer must be:

  • Attend assigned training class
  • At least 18 years old
  • A registered California voter OR Legal Resident of the United States
  • Available to serve from 6:00 am until approximately 9:30 pm or until all closing duties are complete

Reimbursements:

  • Inspectors:
  • $145 for the day
  • $25 for attending a mandatory training
  • Poll Worker:
  • $130 for the day
  • $25 for attending a mandatory training class

Duties of the Inspectors and Clerks:

  • Prepare, open and close the polling place location
  • Find voter information in the Roster of Voters
  • Issue and accept official ballots
  • Assist voters in any phase of the voting process
  • Perform all duties assigned by the Registrar of Voters or Precinct Inspector

The Inspector, in addition must:

Pick-up election ballots and supplies on assigned day prior to Election Day. Contact his/her precinct location prior to Election Day to confirm availability. Be in Charge of the polling location and precinct board on Election Day. Return supplies to assigned location as directed.

Student Precinct Officer

  • Learn while you earn with no homework involved or apply this experience towards your community service requirement.
  • The Imperial County Elections Office would love for you to be a part of our Election Day team!
  • Under the “Learn While You Earn” program, you can receive a stipend of $100 for assisting with and learning about the voting process on Election Day.

Qualifications

  • At least 16 years old on Election Day
  • U.S. citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident living in California (AB 817)
  • A junior or senior in high school with a GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write fluent English
  • Attend a MANDATORY 2-3 hour training class before each election
  • Provide your own transportation to and from the polling location on Election Day
  • Able to work all day on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.Have a cell phone
  • Application must be signed by the student, parent, and a teacher or counselo

Duties

  • Set up, prepare, open and close the polling place location
  • Locate voter names on a precinct roster
  • Issue and receive official ballots to/from voters
  • Assist voters in all phases of the voting process
  • Perform all required duties as assigned by the Precinct Inspector or the Registrar of Voters
